School of physical sciences (SoPS), launched in July 2015, is a pioneering effort for the generation and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of natural and applied science. Providing a quality teaching by highly qualified and competent faculty members through innovative and engaging teaching methods, globally benchmarked curricula, and key focus on the cutting edge research is the main aim of this school.

The school has four major departments :

1. Physics

2. Chemistry

3. Mathematics

4. Computer Science

The school currently offers following academic programs:

· 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Physics

· 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Chemistry

· 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Mathematics

· 5-year Integrated M.Sc. program in Computer Science

· 2-year M.Sc. (Physics with specialization in Opto-electronics) in collaboration with IRDE-DRDO

· 2-year M.Sc. (Mathematics)


The SoPS has launched its academic programs with strength of 150 students in its very first academic year. The academic curricula have been designed with a philosophy of research (academic and industrial) oriented learning. In accordance with choice based credit system (CBCS) of UGC, the students should pursue courses from two categories: core and elective. The core courses include essential learning in the same discipline and are must. In elective courses, the students rejoice the freedom of selecting courses offered by other departments/schools university-wide. The elective courses involve Compulsory Ability Enhancement Courses, Generic Elective and Discipline Specific Elective Courses. The school follows the approach of ‘Learn by doing’ through experiments/practicals/presentations to make style of education to be student-centric. The school is also planning to provide meritorious students with scholarships, internships and other opportunities to enable them to get the finest education. Specializations in master programs are likely to be tuned in such a way that knowledge being imparted may become in accordance with the needs of industrial and academic research. Students will also be offered an opportunity to acquire the knowledge that often exists at the interface of two disciplines. The state-of-the-art laboratories and computational facilities of SoPS match international standards.

With a strong group of highly qualified faculty members, the SoPS envisions to focus its research on the following emerging areas of science and technology :

· Nano-science and Nano-technology

· Computational materials science

· Energy harvesting applications of semiconducting nanostructures

· High Energy Physics

· Nano and molecular catalysis, development of applied materials, organic synthesis

· Pattern recognition, Signal Processing, Optimization Techniques
