Prof. Kusum Arunachalam, a microbial ecologist, obtained her masters and PhD from School of Ecology at North- Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India and post doctorate from Albert Ludwig University, Freiburg, Germany. She joined Doon University in September, 2009. Prior to joining Doon University, she had worked extensively on plant- microbe interaction and nutrient cycling in different terrestrial ecosystems in eastern Himalayas as faculty in North Eastern institute of Science & Technology, Arunachal Pradesh, India. She also served as Senior Scientific Officer (on deputation) at Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) for two and half years. At present, she is heading the School of Environment and Natural Resources at Doon University. She is also Dean, Academics and Director, IQAC. She is engaged in research on ecosystem services, community driven climate resilient agriculture and documentation of traditional knowledge of traditional societies in western Himalaya. She has been recipient of Young Scientist award by department of Science & Technology, India and Young women bio scientist award by the department of Biotechnology. She is a fellow of international Society of Tropical ecology and National Environmental Science Academy. She has 80+ research publications in national and international journals of repute.

She served as Vice-Chancellor (Acting), Doon University from 21-Aug-2017 till 31-Jan-2018.
